Ladesäulenverordnung (German Charging Station Regulation)

In March 2016, the first federal Charging Column Regulation (Ladesäulenverordnung, LSV) came into force. It is issued by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK, formerly Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy) and regulates “the minimum technical requirements for the safe and interoperable construction and operation of publicly accessible charging points for electric vehicles”.

In September 2021, the Bundesrat approved another amendment to the LSV. Among other things, it regulates the uniform payment process for ad hoc charging. From July 2023, charging station operators must accordingly offer at least contactless payment using common debit and credit cards as a minimum standard.
