Circuit breaker

A circuit breaker automatically disconnects the circuit as soon as the permissible current or voltage values are exceeded.

When putting up a charging station, a line circuit breaker and a residual current device (RCD) must always be installed. This prevents DC faults. A separate circuit breaker and a separate RCD secure individual charging points.

There are two types of RCDs: RCD type A-EV and RCD type B. If a DC fault current detection is already installed in the charging station, type A is sufficient. Installation of the charging station is responsible for installing a type B FI switch. If no DC fault current detection is integrated, the electrician who is responsible to set up the charging station has to install an RCD type B.
