With direct current, the electrical current only moves in one direction. It is abbreviated with DC. The batteries of electric cars are supplied with direct current.
Since the German and European power grids only provide alternating current, it must be converted before the charging process, either by the on-board charger in the vehicle (AC charging) or by the charging station itself (DC charging).
